Tropical Biopharmaceutical Study Center (TropBRC) LRI-PGK, IPB University, held a two-day “Workshop Elusidasi Struktur Molekul Tingkat Dasar” on October 8-9, 2024. The event was conducted online via the Zoom platform.
The workshop was opened by the TropBRC Secretary, apt. Dr. Siti Sadiah, M.Sc., and was attended by participants from various universities across Indonesia, with the furthest participant joining from Papua. The event aimed to provide valuable insights and practical knowledge for all attendees. The main speakers were experts from TropBRC, including Novriyandi Hanif, S.Sc., M.Sc., D.Sc., and Luthfan Irfana, M.Si. Additionally, Henny Dwi Yanti served as an assistant, guiding participants in the installation of software like MestReNova, ChemDraw, and ChemSketch during the Pre-Workshop session.
In an interview following the workshop, Dr. Novriyandi explained that molecular structure elucidation refers to mapping a natural or synthetic material into a universal chemical structure. This process is crucial because it adds economic value and broadens the material’s applications in fields such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, the chemical industry, agrochemicals, energy, and environmental science. More specifically, molecular structure elucidation uses spectroscopic and chemical techniques to uncover the structure of materials, thereby increasing their value.
The workshop offered both theoretical and practical knowledge, helping participants apply these techniques to solve molecular structure elucidation problems in line with international standards. A deep understanding of materials and instrumentation was emphasized as the key to obtaining high-quality data.
