Bridging Academia and Policy: Alim Setiawan Slamet as Deputy Minister of Agriculture

Born in Demak on February 27, 1982, Dr. Alim Setiawan Slamet grew up in a family of teachers and farmers. Consequently, this unique background profoundly shaped his perspective on farming policy. He completed his higher education at IPB University, earning a bachelor’s degree in 2005 and a master’s degree in 2009, both in Agro-industrial Technology. He subsequently obtained his doctoral degree in Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics from Ehime University, Japan, in 2017. As an academic in the Department of Management, his expertise spans strategic management, supply chain management, and agricultural marketing.

Before his government appointment, Dr. Alim established a distinguished administrative track record at IPB University. His institutional tenure included serving as Assistant to the Rector (2007–2013), Head of the Rector’s Secretariat Office (2013–2014), Director of Student Affairs and Career Development (2018–2023), and Vice Rector for Resource Resilience and Infrastructure (2023–2025). In December 2025, he was appointed as the Rector of IPB University, succeeding Prof. Arif Satria.

In his cabinet role as Deputy Minister, Dr. Alim aims to bridge the gap between academic research and national policy. He plans to leverage university-driven research and innovation to support national self-sufficiency programs. Furthermore, his core agenda focuses on agricultural downstreaming, a key strategy designed to directly increase the added value of local farming products across the nation.
