BRC STAFF PARTICIPATED IN WORKSHOP HERBALNET INDONESIA

Located in Ibis Hotel Kemayoran, B2P2TOOT Litbangkes RI (Medicinal Plant and Traditional Medicine Research and Development Center) held Training of HerbalNet Indonesia from 7-9 November 2011. BRC Staff, Titis Arifiana, came as representative.

The ceremony was opened by Dr. Mohammad Shahjahan, WHO Representative for Indonesia, then continued by introduction of HerbalNet Digital Repository by Dr. dr. Indah Yuning Prapti, MPH

HerbalNet Indonesia is part of South-East HerbalNet Digital Repository. HerbalNet Digital Repository is a wide-ranging collection of digital intellectual materials on herbal and traditional medicine from WHO offices and WHO partner institutions in the South-East Asia Region. Most items in the Repository are available as original full-text documents or full resolution images and videos. However, downloading of some of the items may be restricted due to copy right protection.

Regarding herbal and traditional medicine, Indonesia has Jamu as most-known herbal and traditional medicine. Jamu has a long story as medicine in Indonesia, but unfortunately it lacks of documentation and efficacy. Objectives of HerbalNet to share evidence-based information in the use of herbal medicine in primary health care; and to promote the safety, efficacy, and the quality of herbal medicines by exchanging information on national norms and standards. In line with the objectives, it is important to document the evidence-based and efficacy of Jamu. Particular reasons of the importance of HerbalNet are to support the intellectual right of herbal and traditional medicines Indonesia, and to enhance the exposure of research on herbal/traditional medicines in Indonesia.

Followed by 18 participants, which came from many institutions, such as Bengkulu University, Gadjah Mada University, Andalas University, University of Indonesia, Balittro Bogor, Directorate Traditional Complementary and Alternative Health Service (Ministry of Health), and BRC-Bogor Agricultural University, etc, the objectives of the training are to promote the importance and benefit of HerbalNet to the networking members; to give introductory training for networking members by demo & practicing HerbalNet; and to organize the administrator of HerbalNet Indonesia.
