On Tuesday afternoon, July 15, 2025, the Biopharmaca Conservation and Cultivation Station (BCCS), under the Tropical Biopharmaca Research Center (TropBRC) LRI-PK IPB University, welcomed internship students from the TropBRC Laboratory (LabTropBR). The visit was hosted by the Manager of BCCS, Mr. Taopik Ridwan, S.P., M.Si., along with his team.
The activity aimed to provide students with a closer understanding of BCCS’s functions and activities. They received a comprehensive overview of the unit, which manages a 2.8-hectare cultivation area with a collection of approximately 500 species of biopharmaca plants. BCCS is also equipped with supporting facilities such as a drying oven and distillation equipment, and offers services for essential oil production, provision of simplisia samples, and plant seedlings. In addition, students were introduced to the unit’s core activities, including cultivation research, plant care, expanding the plant collection, and organizing educational garden visits.
As part of the visit, students observed various medicinal plant collections, learned how to identify them, and explored their uses. They also participated in an interactive quiz titled “Guess the Medicinal Plant.” The visit is expected to enhance students’ knowledge and interest in the conservation and utilization of biopharmaca plants as part of research and innovation rooted in Indonesia’s rich biodiversity.
