The Tropical Biopharmaca Research Center (TropBRC) LRI-PGKH IPB University recently welcomed an academic delegation. Specifically, the team visited from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak Branch, Mukah Campus. Dr. Nurul Hidayah Binti Mohd Khairlani led the visit in late August 2026. As a result, this event marks a major milestone in the TropBRC and UiTM Sarawak collaboration. During the meeting, both institutions drafted a new Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). Additionally, they launched an international student internship program in plantation, agrotechnology, and tropical biopharmaca.
Advancing TropBRC and UiTM Sarawak Research Synergies
The academic agenda officially began on Monday, August 24, 2026. First, the UiTM delegation toured several research facilities at IPB University. For instance, they visited the Biopharmaca Conservation and Cultivation Unit (UKBB). Afterwards, the team explored the Animal Testing Laboratory (UKHP). Consequently, the delegates gained clear insights into TropBRC’s research infrastructure. This experience allowed both institutions to easily exchange valuable perspectives on future academic synergies.
Beyond laboratory tours, building a strong institutional bond was equally important. Therefore, TropBRC hosted a warm networking dinner on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The Director of TropBRC and key researchers welcomed the international guests. Because the setting was relaxed, researchers communicated openly and exchanged fresh ideas.
Next, formal discussions took place on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Representatives from both institutions gathered in the TropBRC Meeting Room. There, leadership teams finalized the proposed MoA. Furthermore, they outlined potential joint research initiatives and laid solid groundwork for a long-term partnership.
Importantly, this growing partnership also supports student development. TropBRC proudly welcomed two UiTM students, Zete Zuriany Binti Zulnizem and Bibian Imu Riang. Currently, both students are completing an intensive internship program at TropBRC. This hands-on placement immerses them in a professional research environment. As a result, the program acts as a brilliant catalyst for direct knowledge exchange between campuses.
Ultimately, this academic visit highlights TropBRC’s commitment to expanding its global network. Through facility tours, formalized agreements, and student exchanges, the TropBRC and UiTM Sarawak collaboration will continue to thrive. Moving forward, it will bring significant advancements to tropical biopharmaca and agrotechnology research.
