On Friday, August 21, UKBB TropBRC IPB University hosted a special international delegation. Specifically, the Directorate of International Education (DPI) organized this collaborative campus event. In addition, the event brought together a diverse group of aspiring scholars. Participants included enthusiastic students from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT) and Universitas Indonesia (UI). Additionally, international students currently studying at IPB University joined the program eagerly.
Global Exchange on Medicinal Plants at UKBB IPB University
First, the delegates enjoyed an immersive garden tour around the campus facilities. As a result, the exploration continued with an engaging introduction to simplisia. Simplisia refers to natural raw materials derived directly from various herbal plants. Modern researchers commonly prepare these natural materials for important medicinal purposes. By examining physical samples directly, participants gained a much deeper scientific understanding. Moreover, they learned exactly how researchers process these valuable natural resources safely.
Naturally, these practical activities sparked lively discussions among the visiting international delegates. For instance, participants actively exchanged scientific insights regarding traditional Indonesian medicinal plants. The engaging and highly interactive dialogue covered several critical botanical topics:
– Potential health benefits of local traditional herbs
– Sustainable plant cultivation methods in modern agriculture
– Unique conservation challenges in tropical climates

In the meantime, the Manager of UKBB warmly welcomed the entire delegation. Specifically, Taopik Ridwan, S.T.P., M.Si., and his dedicated team guided the students. Throughout the day, they happily shared practical insights into medicinal plant utilization. They also explained modern conservation strategies applied at the university research facilities.
Ultimately, this collaborative activity went far beyond a standard campus facility tour. Indeed, it served as a dynamic platform for cross-cultural academic exchange. Therefore, UKBB IPB University continues to proudly share vital botanical knowledge globally.
