On December 4, 2025, the Tropical Biopharmaca Research Center (TropBRC) LRI-PGKH IPB University congratulated Prof. drh. Min Rahminiwati, M.S., Ph.D. IPB University officially inaugurated her as a Full Professor. She joins the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (SKHB). During this prestigious event, she delivered an important scientific oration. Her speech focused on how multitarget herbal agents help manage metabolic disorders. This presentation brought valuable insights to the academic community.

This crucial topic addresses a major global health challenge today. Metabolic diseases affect both humans and animals at rapidly rising rates. Prof. Min explained that conditions like diabetes and hypertension do not occur alone. Instead, complex mechanisms like chronic inflammation and oxidative stress connect them tightly. Insulin resistance also plays a major role in these health issues. Because of this high complexity, single-target therapies often fail to work well. Therefore, doctors and veterinarians urgently need multitarget herbal agents. These advanced agents provide much better and comprehensive care.

Advancing Multitarget Herbal Agents in Research

Indonesia possesses rich biodiversity and many valuable medicinal plants. Species like kumis kucing, tempuyung, ginger, and sappan wood offer great medical benefits. Scientists show these native plants can modulate multiple biochemical pathways at once. These powerful plants also activate AMPK and block NF-κB safely. Furthermore, they protect vital organs through strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions. This dual action helps the body heal naturally and effectively.

Prof. Min stated that using these plants goes beyond preserving traditional heritage. Modern science now strongly supports this innovative medicinal approach. Studies in labs, computer models, and network pharmacology confirm these natural benefits. Metabolite analysis also provides clear evidence of their medical value. Systematic research proves that mixing specific herbs creates powerful synergistic effects. These natural mixes control blood sugar and improve overall lipid profiles. They also lower blood pressure and protect long-term kidney function.

In closing, Prof. Min urged everyone to support evidence-based herbal research. This vital research offers a safe, effective, and highly sustainable health solution. By blending local wisdom with modern science, Indonesia can lead global health innovations. The country holds tremendous potential to manage complex metabolic diseases globally. TropBRC hopes this academic achievement inspires new scientific discoveries. We aim to elevate Indonesia’s biological wealth for broader public health benefits.
