On Wednesday morning, September 19, 2025, a total of thirteen interns from LabTropBRC conducted an educational visit to the Animal Testing Laboratory (UKHP), located at the IPB University Darmaga Campus. The Animal Testing Laboratory operates as an essential unit under the Tropical Biopharmaca Research Center (TropBRC). It was specifically established to facilitate rigorous research, in-depth testing, and the continuous development of high-quality biopharmaceutical products. Furthermore, this strategic facility plays a crucial role in supporting ongoing scientific research activities conducted by the IPB University academic community, as well as scholars from various other universities.
Upon their arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the dedicated staff of the facility, namely drh. Leliana Nugrahaning Widi, drh. Rere Epiyanti, and drh. Maudika Pamela Fiorenza. These veterinary experts provided the visiting interns with comprehensive explanations and professional insights. The detailed materials presented during the session covered essential laboratory functions, strict standard operating procedures (SOP), and the fundamental stages of conducting in vivo tests safely and accurately.
Animal Testing Laboratory Standard Procedures and Ethics
A significant portion of the educational discussion was dedicated to the ethical principles of animal use in scientific studies. Consequently, the interns learned about comprehensive animal care management and the precise observation techniques required throughout the testing process. Ensuring proper animal welfare is a critical component of any reliable biomedical research, and understanding these ethical guidelines is paramount for future researchers.
Through this interactive visit, the participating students are expected to gain valuable hands-on experience and a deeper practical understanding of biomedical research utilizing animal models. Ultimately, this activity serves as a vital learning opportunity that effectively bridges collaboration between formal educational institutions and specialized research units within IPB University. By providing direct exposure to real-world scientific practices, the program actively strengthens human resource research capacity in the advancing fields of biopharmaceuticals and biomedicine.
