Over two days, on October 17–18, 2025, the Tropical Biopharmaca Research Center (TropBRC) LRI-PGK IPB University held a Basic Molecular Structure Elucidation Workshop. The event was attended by 28 participants from various institutions across Indonesia. This workshop aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the principles and applications of various spectroscopic techniques in determining molecular structures of chemical compounds—an essential foundation in biopharmaca research and related scientific fields.
The workshop featured two expert speakers from IPB University: Novriyandi Hanif, S.Si., M.Sc., D.Sc. (TropBRC LRI-PGK; Department of Chemistry, FMIPA IPB University) and Dr. Luthfan Irfana, S.Si., M.Si. (Department of Chemistry, FMIPA IPB University). The materials covered included Principles and Applications of Molecular Structure Elucidation through UV-VIS, IR, MS (LCMS, GCMS, HRMS), and NMR Spectroscopy, encompassing confirmation, elucidation of simple and complex molecular structures, and determination of relative configurations.
Prior to the main sessions, a Pre-Workshop was held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, aimed at ensuring the proper installation and readiness of software on participants’ computers or laptops. This preparatory session helped participants familiarize themselves with the software used during the training and allowed them to directly consult with the speakers regarding any technical issues encountered.
Throughout the workshop, participants gave highly positive feedback, appreciating the friendliness of the organizers, the quick responses, and the competence of the instructors, who were both patient and engaging. One participant noted that the topics discussed were highly relevant and the instructors were very experienced, making the learning process enjoyable and effective. Through this event, TropBRC reaffirms its commitment to supporting research capacity building among Indonesian scientists while strengthening scientific collaboration in the field of tropical biopharmaca.
