The Tropical Biopharmaca Research Center (TropBRC) LRI-PGK IPB University successfully held its third webinar on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Conducted online via Zoom, the event focused on “Metabolomics as a Compass for Herbal Drug Innovation.” This session highlighted how metabolomics actively drives the development of modern, science-based herbal medicines.
Advancing Herbal Medicine Through Metabolomics
The webinar featured Prof. Dr. Mohamad Rafi, S.Si., M.Si., a TropBRC researcher and lecturer at IPB University’s Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA). Moderated by Dr. Wulan Tri Wahyuni, S.Si., M.Si., the session provided deep, evidence-based insights into modern plant analysis.
During his presentation, Prof. Mohamad Rafi explained that metabolomics comprehensively guides the herbal drug innovation process. Specifically, this approach aids in identifying bioactive compounds, standardizing raw materials, and improving product quality, safety, and efficacy. Furthermore, metabolomics bridges multiple disciplines, seamlessly integrating biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, and computational sciences into a unified research ecosystem.
The interactive session attracted diverse participants from across Indonesia. Attendees included representatives from universities, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), government ministries, hospitals, polytechnic institutions, industry, and the general public. Consequently, this high turnout reflects a growing national interest in science-based herbal medicine development.
Participants praised the webinar for its up-to-date content, clear delivery, and excellent organization. They also appreciated the organizing team’s prompt communication, user-friendly registration, and fast information access via email and WhatsApp.
By hosting this event, TropBRC strengthens its role as a hub for interdisciplinary research networking. The center actively opens opportunities for collaboration, training, workshops, analytical services, and internship programs in tropical biopharmaca.
