The Tropical Biopharmaca Research Center (TropBRC) LRI-PGKH IPB University has officially published the September–October 2026 issue of Jurnal Jamu Indonesia (Vol. 11, No. 5). Published on September 18, 2026, the issue covers research on medicinal plants, herbal medicine, and natural pharmacology. It also explores the potential uses of Indonesia’s botanical resources in health research.
The latest issue features nine research articles and one review article. The studies cover several areas of herbal research. These include plant-based bioactive compounds, pharmacological activities, metabolic health, and herbal medicine development. In addition, the articles use different approaches to investigate local medicinal plants and natural products.
Among the featured studies is an analysis of supply chain network optimization for local Baccaurea fruits from West Sulawesi. The study examines their potential as raw materials for herbal medicine. Another study investigates the bioactive compounds of Rhodomyrtus tomentosa. It examines their pharmacological activities and prospects for new drug discovery.
Exploring Plant Extracts and Metabolic Health
Several studies in this issue focus on plant extracts and metabolic health. In particular, some research examines the antidiabetic activities of plant extracts. The studies also assess their effects on pancreatic histopathology.
The plants investigated include Premna serratifolia, Morinda citrifolia, pulutan (Urena lobata), and temu blenyeh (Curcuma purpurascens). Together, these studies examine different plant sources in relation to metabolic health.
The issue also presents research on the antioxidant properties of botanical materials. For example, one study analyzes the phenolic and flavonoid contents of papaya seeds and peels. Another evaluates the α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of green and purple kale leaf extracts. These findings add to research on the bioactive properties of plant-based materials.
From Herbal Responses to Molecular Research
The research also covers more specialized medical and pharmacological topics. One article examines leukocyte responses to Karika leaf extract. Meanwhile, another study evaluates antihypertensive Jamu supplementation in relation to blood pressure and renal oxidative stress.
In addition, a molecular docking study investigates the potential of Casticin against skin matrix metalloproteinases in the context of anti-aging research. This study represents a computational approach to investigating natural compounds and their possible biological activities.
Overall, the latest issue brings together research on medicinal plants and natural products from several scientific perspectives. The studies range from investigations of plant extracts to molecular-level analysis. As a result, Jurnal Jamu Indonesia continues to provide a platform for scientific discussion on herbal medicine, medicinal plants, and natural pharmacology.
