On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, a dedicated group of six internship students participated in an educational visit to the Biopharmaca Conservation and Cultivation Unit (UKBB). This specialized unit operates directly under the Tropical Biopharmaca Research Center (TropBRC) LRI-PGKH IPB University. The primary objective of this institutional visit was to significantly enhance the students’ practical knowledge regarding comprehensive biofarmaka processing and botanical studies.
Taopik Ridwan, M.Si., the Manager of UKBB, formally welcomed the visiting internship students. During his comprehensive introductory remarks, he systematically guided the participants through the various specialized facilities available at the center. He explained how these integrated facilities play a fundamental role in supporting the continuous research and development of medicinal plants.
Mastering Biofarmaka Processing Techniques
Throughout the structured program, the students gained direct, hands-on exposure to several critical stages of medicinal plant research. Initially, the participants engaged in the precise identification of various medicinal plants, which serves as a foundational step for subsequent botanical study. Following this introduction, they carefully observed ongoing research activities directly related to plant-based medicinal development.
A significant portion of the visit centered on advanced biofarmaka processing methodologies. The students observed and analyzed intricate distillation processes used to extract essential plant components. Furthermore, they received detailed instruction on the careful preparation of simplisia. Simplisia serves as the vital, standardized raw material explicitly required for manufacturing high-quality herbal products.
